Huis Marseille is located in a 17th century canal house. The stone tablet on the facade, depicting the harbour of Marseille, dates back to the French merchant who had built the house. More than 300 years later, the original plan of the interior remains intact, along with the 18th-century stucco and the ceiling painting by Jacob de Wit in the garden room. Since 1999 the building has housed a photography museum also known as Huis Marseille. Every three months the museum offers a new exhibition programme, which includes the rich history and various applications of the medium. Huis Marseille also presents regularly work from the museum's own collection of contempory photography.
